The short list of what stays behind

Honest answers save everyone a day. Here’s what licensed haulers can’t legally load:

Never accepted

• Hazardous waste — solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, fertilizers
• Wet paint & stains — a dried, solidified can is sometimes OK; ask
• Tires & batteries — auto shops and county facilities take these (usually $2–5 each)
• Asbestos materials — requires a licensed abatement crew
• Medical waste & sharps
• Propane tanks & fuel cans (unless emptied and purged)

Where that stuff goes instead

Johnson County’s household hazardous waste facility takes most of the list free or cheap for county residents. The haulers will point you there instead of taking your money for something they can’t move.

Gray areas

• Filled paint cans — solidified latex sometimes passes; oil-based never
• Hot tubs & above-ground pools — YES we take those (that’s a full service page)
• Fire extinguishers — recycling programs exist; ask first
